Our primary purpose of this Chamber is to our members. Members are “preferred” businesses because they make the commitment to the purposes of the Chamber – to promote civic, economic, and area enterprises. Chamber members promote job readiness for youth, efficient public services, a positive business climate and solid customer service. This Chamber refers only investing members’ information throughout the year. We make thousands of referrals yearly via telephone, email and person-to-person, In our office alone, we handled more than 15,000 inquiries in 2018—phone calls, emails, social media contacts (Facebook) and people walking through our door, all asking questions and needing assistance with information.

We accomplished so much in 2018, and not without the help of our members! We held 12 main events: Wine Festival, Big Lake Flea Market, Lake Festival, Harvest Days, Trick or Treat the Avenue, Estate Planning Seminar, Spring & Fall Lamppost Decorating Contest, Holiday Open House, Christmas Parade, and our Christmas Social, plus 14 Saturdays hosting the new farm fresh Marketplace events. Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce in southern Mecklenburg County, Virginia is set to host the LOVE artwork sign at the 37th Annual Virginia Lake Festival otherwise known as LAKEFEST!

VA Love Art Clarksville

Visitors are encouraged to take a family picture in front of the artwork and share it on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers or on Twitter, using the special hashtag ‪#‎LOVEVA ‪#‎LAKEFESTVA.

The Virginia Tourism Corporation will bring an oversized LOVE artwork to Clarksville on July 17th as part of a state and local partnership to promote tourism. The artwork, which is 16 feet long and more than six feet high, is part of the Virginia is for Lovers campaign and promotes the message that love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation. Visitors can come see the LOVE when it arrives July 17th and will be on display at the pocket park on the corner of 4th & Virginia Avenue, near the sand sculpture, through July 20th.

“Our iconic Virginia is for Lovers brand is about love – pure and simple, and has been for more than 40 years,” said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of the Virginia Tourism Corporation. “We are excited to share the LOVE at locations throughout the Commonwealth where so many people can enjoy being a part of it. It reminds us that Virginia is an ideal destination for families looking to completely connect on a Virginia vacation.”

“We are thrilled to add this new highlight to the festival this year! Everyone who has been to LAKEFEST, LOVE’s it! There is so much to see and do, from the hot air balloon show, to 5k run, antique car show, amusement rides for the kids, to great entertainment, 150 arts & craft vendors, food galore & Fireworks! We want to invite everyone to our free event! Having the LOVE sign will be something new & fun and we also see it and an opportunity to promote tourism to our area.” said Sheila Cuykendall, executive director of the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce.

Tourism is an instant revenue generator for Virginia. In 2010, tourism generated $19 billion in revenue, supported 204,000 jobs and generated $1.3 billion in state and local taxes.

Governors-Bowl-Food-Fund-Drive-2012A recent study by Feeding America found that over 1,012,500 Virginians are considered “food insecure.” This represents a 54% increase since 2006. A large number of these individuals are children, senior citizens, disabled adults, and the new face of hunger – individuals who have lost their jobs and are having problems making ends meet. Summertime is typically one of the most challenging times for food banks in Virginia, especially with the number of children who are out of school and do not have access to before and after school feeding programs.

Governors-Bowl-Food-Fund-Drive-2012In response to this urgent need, Governor Bob McDonnell, The Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks are joining efforts in 2012 to create the first Chamber of Commerce Challenge Food and Fund Drive — a food and fund drive competition among all Virginia Chambers of Commerce, their member businesses, and state government offices. In this friendly competition, the Chamber or government office that raises the most pounds of food will be awarded a prestigious and highly coveted “Governor’s Bowl” in the categories of small, medium, and large for Chamber offices and a special bowl for the top government office.

During our last fiscal year,  (the Central Food Bank) distributed 513,637 pounds of grocery products through 6 partner agencies in Mecklenburg County:

  • Amazing Bibleway Church ~ Clarksville
  • Lake County Area on Aging ~ Mecklenburg
  • Holy Name Church of Jesus ~ Mecklenburg
  • Young Memorial C. O. G. I. C. ~ Mecklenburg
  • Mecklenburg Senior Citizens ~ Mecklenburg
  • SOuth Hill Breadbox Company ~ Mecklenburg
