belleJust for the kids, we are happy to announce that we are bringing a few special guests appearances back again to this year’s event! They will be here for a limited time during the festival, so you won’t want to miss them!

Belle is beautiful outside and in, and she knows that true beauty means being kind, helpful, patient, and caring. She loves to read and use her mind, and she uses her quick thinking to help out whenever she’s needed. She’s a strong-willed young lady who puts her family and friends first. Belle is looking forward to coming to LAKEFEST, she will charm you with her inner beauty and strength.

We also will have special appearances from Mickey Mouse!

Celebrating 40 years along with us is Star Wars! So Princess Leia & the Jedi plan to come party with us as we both celebrate 40 years and we have heard rumors Darth Vader & his Stormtrooper will be there too.

star-warsPrincess Leia Organa is true royalty in the eyes of her friends. She’s a great leader and a hero of the Rebel Alliance. She’s smart, spunky, and determined, and she never stops fighting for what she believes in. She helps whenever she’s needed and fights whenever she must.

The Jedi are masters of the Force, and they use their knowledge of it to defend peace and justice throughout the galaxy. Their strength in muscle and mind is incredible, and they fight with great skill when it’s necessary. They will be traveling to LAKEFEST looking for ways to stand up against the dark side.

Darth Vader is a powerful Sith Lord with power over the dark side of the Force and a talent for choking anyone who challenges him. His skill in the Force makes him a difficult opponent for the Jedi, and his cruelty is well-known throughout the galaxy.

Stormtroopers are the grunts of the evil Empire and First Order. They answer to the Dark Lords of the Sith, carrying out their orders without question. They are a vital part of their masters’ vile plans. Stormtroopers may have weak minds and terrible aim, but they can be daunting opponents. Jedi should use caution if they encounter Stormtroopers at LAKEFEST

One of the events major attractions to Lakefest each year is the Sand Sculpture. We wait for almost three whole days to figure out what great work of art will be carved out of that huge pile of sand. The attraction is located in the Pocket Park, located at the corner of 4th & Virginia Avenue, near the LOVE sign.

Ed-Moore-Sandy-FeatBack this year is Ed Moore who was here in 2014 and has been the main sand artist for Lakefest for many years. Ed is the Founder of the Sandy Feat sand sculpture group, who grew up to be an architect. But he never gave up on his childhood pastime, which resulted in ever more complex creations, from elaborate castles built on beach vacations to the scores of sculptures he has cut into blocks of wet sand since founding the professional sand-sculpting team Sandy Feat 26 years ago.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, is a N.C. State University Residence, lives in Raleigh with his wife, Sally Moore. The Moore family has a long history at N.C. State, where he, his father and one of his sons all earned degrees. Moore says his father would often recall a tradition there from the 1920s called “Rush the Grand,” in which groups of students would take the trolley downtown to the Grand Theater. (Later called the Ambassador Theater, it has since been razed.) A large enough group would overwhelm the attendants, allowing the students to get in free.

Logan is a 22-year-old songwriter and singer originally from Mebane, North Carolina. He currently resides in Raleigh, North Carolina where he is a senior at North Carolina State University. bigTimeBigTime

We are bringing back BigTime-The Party Band, we had them scheduled Saturday night in 2015, but they only performed through half of their show due to the rain, so they really wanted the chance to come back and play for us again.

They celebrated their ten year anniversary in 2013. Since their formation in 2003, they quickly became one of the hottest bands in the Southeast. Playing traditional Carolina Beach Music, Rhythm and Blues, Classic Rock as well as a wide and pleasing variety of party favorites in clubs, community festivals, weddings and corporate events, BigTime has moved to the forefront of both live and recorded bands in the region.

With eight active performers, BigTime displays vocal range and strength many other bands cannot easily match. Running the entire gamut from the powerhouse vocals of energetic and charismatic front man John L. Wilson, the bluesy vocal swagger of keyboardist Bill Hancock, to the mellow style of Tiffany Hancock, they personalize each song, impress you with their differences, and yet wow you with their harmonious blend. Add to this the skill and enthusiasm of Todd Arrington on guitar and vocals, the experience and precision of drummer Mike Harriss, the solid drive of Craig Saunders on bass guitar and the exciting yet smooth sounds of Craig Cottrell on sax and vocals. Rounding out the group is its founding member, manager, sound technician and vocalist Johnny Wilson, who has been a staple of the North Carolina music scene since 1969 with his first band, The Contrast and in the 1980’s with the extremely popular Bits & Pieces.

Since being signed by the south’s premier labels Ripete Records & KHP Music in 2008, BigTime has regularly released significant new music. In March of 2009, their debut CD, Footprints in the Sand, included several excellent original tunes along with some great classic covers. Their first chart topping hits drove excellent sales of the CD. These hits were “Drink Up”, “Oh, What a Feeling” and “Do Ya Like”… the latter being written by Tiffany Hancock. At the end of 2013, three BigTime songs were simultaneously in the Beach Music Top 40… with their newest single “I Loved Them All” debuting at #36, “Four O’clock” coming in at #25 and “Cherry Groove” nearly hitting the top spot at #3. This breakout recording and performing group has solidified its position as one of the most requested in the southeast. And they are ready to Bring their PARTY to LAKEFEST!!!

shuttle-bus-1Parking? We get that question a lot here in our office, and to make life a little less stressful for you & the Town of Clarksville during Lakefest we encourage you to use the shuttle service offered to you as our solution for everyone. (View the Shuttle Map here)

This service will help with the age old question of where to park? This way you don’t have to worry about being stuck on the side street with all those others trying & hoping to find a spot nearby. The side streets are really narrow and if you are new to the area, you might not know the best way to navigate around the back roads, even though there are detour signs. Even if you are familiar and live out of town, there will be fewer headaches to park your car across from the YMCA, catch the bus and ride to the drop you off at 8th street. And any time you are ready to head back to your vehicle, a bus will be there within minutes to take you back.

Parking & Shuttle Service

shuttle-bus-2Festival-goers are encouraged to Park & Ride.  Parking is $5 per vehicle; there is no charge to ride the shuttles to and from the festival.  Parking will be at the Lake County Business Park, on Noblin Farm Road.  The Shuttle will run from 8 am until 6 pm. If you want to participate in the night activities you will have to catch the last ride by 6 pm to retrieve your vehicle so you can then just park closer to town after 6 pm.

We are excited to announce that we are again working with the Mecklenburg County Public School division with renting two of their buses – one handicapped accessible – and hiring division bus drivers to operate them.

Sheila Cuykendall, Executive Director of the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce said the chamber traditionally hired a non-local bus service to bring people downtown from the event’s remote parking areas. Last year we wanted to find a way to provide the same service while spending the money locally. She approached the school division about renting two buses – one handicapped accessible – and hiring division bus drivers to operate them. The school board once again approved the request at its last voting session.

2017 Lakefest LogoThe Clarksville Chamber is super excited to unveil the Special 40th edition 2017 design for this year’s Lakefest T-shirts. Normally, we hold a contest that begins in January for local artist or participants of any age to submit their design to the Lakefest judges for consideration of the winning logo design for the t-shirts. With a decline in entries over the past few years, we decided that with it being the 40th year we would enlist a few outside professional designers to submit a design to us this year. The few designers that chose to participate have ties to our local merchants with their promotional products.

The 2017 Lakefest Logo Winner of $250 is Dale Moorhouse!

Dale is a graphic designer who has over 30 years’ experience in the industry. Pro Graphics has clients across North America, and has been producing artwork for Toby Newcomb of Red Bolt Promotions for the last two years. In 2011, he opened Pro Graphics, which specializes in producing artwork for the promotional & incentive industry as well as designing graphics for print. Dale also creates logos and develops marketing campaigns for business. Dale is known for his professionalism, creativity and patience. He also loves coffee.

Dale MoorhouseLogo was created in Adobe Illustrator and designed to incorporate the boating/music/fireworks aspects of the event. Bright colors convey the ideas of fun and lively.

A five-member judging committee chose his graphic design from a few other contenders. Each submission remains unnamed to the judging committee therefore they don’t know whose artwork it is so that it is unbiased. Dale’s winning design will be featured on the official 40th Annual Virginia Lake Festival, 2017 t-shirts and all other promotional event materials for the July 20-22 event.

BE ROOTED IN YOUR COMMUNITY is our campaign for the 2017 Membership Drive Campaign here at the Clarksville Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Every January we send out well over 300 membership packet applications to partner with area businesses & organizations. In 2016, we had 204 members of the  Clarksville Chamber.

image005Our primary purpose of this Chamber is to our members. Members are “preferred” businesses because they make the commitment to the purposes of the Chamber – to promote civic, economic, and area enterprises. Chamber members promote job readiness for youth, efficient public services, a positive business climate and solid customer service. This  Chamber refers only investing members’ information throughout the year. We make thousands of referrals yearly via telephone, email and person-to-person, In our office alone, we handled more than 17,000 inquiries in 2016—phone calls, emails, social media contacts (Facebook) and people walking through our door, all asking questions and needing assistance with information.

While the media continues to speculate on the future economic conditions that are ahead, let’s keep in mind that the benefits of a Chamber membership far out-weigh the cost–in most cases, the cost is less than 50¢ a day! Can you really afford to have your interest be omitted from one of the biggest community promoters of your business or organization? “Become Rooted and let’s Grow together” in 2017, along with all the other businesses, organizations and or individual that will rejoin or join this year . We are confident that you will realize the value of being part of a  network of businesses & organizations here in the heart of Lake County and the benefits it provides.

Join in 2017! Let us help promote your business or special interest!
